Let´s Talk Respiratory

Emphysema is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that is characterized by the destruction and enlargement of air sacs within the lungs, which results in decreased lung elasticity. This in turn causes the lungs to become hyperinflated, leading to breathing difficulties.

Causes of Emphysema:

  • Exposure to industrial pollutants or dusts,
  • cigarette smoking, and
  • a familial or genetic disorder.

And did you know ... SVS valves can also be efficient in treating prolonged air leaks, resulting in faster healing of damaged lung tissue.

SVS: One Valve, Two Targeted Therapies

Spiration Valve Therapy is a promising and effective approach for treating a diseased lung in emphysematous patients or a damaged lung resulting in air leaks.
Discover the procedure and its clinical benefits in this short overview video.

Minimally Invasive, Maximally Comfortable

SVS — An Innovative Endobronchial Therapy
The unique umbrella-shaped design of the Spiration Valve redirects air from diseased parts of the lung to healthier parts, all while allowing trapped air and secretions to escape naturally along the airway wall, so that patients may breathe easier.

Emphysema Patient Selection & Treatment Process

Clinical Work Up and Screening

  • Pulmonary function tests.
  • HRCT Scan.

SeleCT Report

SeleCT offers you a non-invasive patient screening solution that assists you with selecting the qualified patient and target lobe by providing key measures of:

  • Fissure integrity.
  • Emphysema severity.
  • Heterogeneity.
  • Lobar volume.

Spiration Valve Therapy

After successful patient evaluation and target lobe selection, SVS valves are placed in the most diseased lobe. The unique umbrella-shaped design of the Spiration Valve redirects air from diseased parts of the lung to healthier parts, all while allowing trapped air and secretions to escape naturally along the airway wall, so that patients may breathe easier.

Post-procedure Management

Proper patient observation after procedure for treatment success and management of any potential adverse events.

Spiration Valve placement is a very simple and very fast procedure. With the umbrella design of the SVS valve you can easily occlude bronchi. You have some anchors at the distal part to avoid migration or coughing out (valves). And with the very thin and flexible catheter, you can also place the valves in sometimes difficult to reach areas.
